WKTV is one of the first
community television production companies in
the USA. They broadcast their signal
through the local cable channel for Wyoming
MI, Gaines Township (Kent County) MI, and
Kentwood MI. WKTV funding is through
charitable donations and limited funds from
the local municipalities (except Gaines
Township). Those funds come from the
cable companies as mandated by State and
Federal statues for Public, Educational, and
Governmental channels (PEG). The
station is manned by over 300 volunteers and
a very small staff (5 paid staff members).
Visit the web site today so you can see how
they do stuff. And then look into your
heart and your pocket book to donate what
you can to their cause.
Community television provides freedom of
choice, freedom of heritage, and freedom of
speech. As an example, if you have a
pet project that you want to air to your
fellow citizen, WKTV will give you that
chance. Sure, there are a few rules
and you must undergo training, but hey, at
least you will be able to put together a
quality production that may win you a
prestigious award as has happened for many
of WKTV presentations by volunteers.
And, if you want to stream that show to the
world and the rest of the community that
doesn't have cable access, WKTV has a
professional Internet staff that can assist
you in that endeavor. More so then any
other community PEG channel organization in
the USA. |
